When you answer, the same snippet goes to SAFI and the round trip is timed. Its answer and its seconds are what actually came back — if the model is unreachable the duel says so rather than inventing an opponent. Your clock includes reading the code; the model's does not. It is not a fair fight, and that is the interesting part. Each round is a real model call, so it costs 1 credit from your plan — and if you run out, the duel pauses while your own answer still scores.
